From All of Us at Dr. Salzberg-Siegel’s Clinton Township Office, We Hope You Have a Happy Holiday Season!

December 13, 2011

From now until the end of the year, there will be many opportunities to share a smile with those who are most important to you. However, maybe you struggle with having the confidence to bare that big grin. If you do, there is still plenty of time to come see us at our Clinton Township office for a regular cleaning or a smile change, such as teeth whitening or cosmetic bonding, before the holiday parties and get-togethers start ramping up.

Regular cleanings are important because they can help you prevent gum disease and detect early tooth decay, but also because more and more dental studies are finding that a connection exists between oral health and the body’s overall health. Click here to read what the Mayo Clinic has written about the link between oral health and overall health.

There is one more reason that we recommend coming in before the end of the year, one that can brighten your smile in a different way. For many patients, the end of the year means that dental benefits are preparing to start over. Some plans may even be reducing benefits next year. By using the benefits you have now to help you achieve your optimal oral health, you can actually keep your cost down. During the holiday season that can be a very good thing, whether you need a filling or if you’ve been waiting to get that crown you need.

Call our Clinton Township office to schedule your appointment with Dr. Salzberg-Siegel. We also want to wish everyone a happy, safe, and fun holiday season!

Tell us what you are cooking this holiday! Here is one of our favorite recipes. What is one of yours?

Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

4 cups fresh or frozen cranberries

Optional Pecans, orange zest, raisins, currants, blueberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice.

Steps:

  1. Wash cranberries. Bring water and sugar to boil in a saucepan, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add cranberries and return to a boil. Reduce heat, simmer for 10 minutes or until cranberries burst.
  2. Add any optional ingredients you wish to add. We recommend half a cup of roughly chopped pecans and a few strips of orange zest. A pint of blueberries can be added for extra sweetness.
  3. Remove from heat. Cool completely at room temperature and then chill in refrigerator. Cranberry sauce will thicken as it cools.

Makes 2 ¼ cups.
