Thus, their learning and behavioral problems are related to poor sleep.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, children with untreated sleep apnea are three times more likely to have grades of \u201cC\u201d or lower, and they also could develop high blood pressure or cardiac issues as they grow.<\/p>\n<h2>Symptoms of Childhood sleep Apnea<\/h2>\n<p>There are night and daytime symptoms of sleep apnea in children. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Snoring<\/li>\n<li>Mouth breathing<\/li>\n<li>Bedwetting<\/li>\n<li>Daytime sleepiness<\/li>\n<li>Trouble concentrating<\/li>\n<li>A poor attention span<\/li>\n<li>Behavior problems<\/li>\n<li>Poor performance at school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What Causes Childhood Sleep Apnea?<\/h2>\n<p>Among most young children, enlarged tonsils and\/or adenoids cause sleep apnea. (In older children ages 12 to 18 obesity can be a factor, too.) Enlarged tonsils and adenoids can cause breathing trouble during the day. At night, throat muscles relax, allowing these tissues to further restrict airflow, which can lead to sleep apnea.<\/p>\n<p>Treating Childhood Sleep Apnea in Clinton Township<\/p>\n<p>For some children, CPAP\u2014continuous positive airway pressure\u2014therapy alleviates sleep apnea. Worn at night, a CPAP\u2019s forced air keeps a child\u2019s breathing passage open.
